    I completely agree with this question to ask the boss. I actually learned it 25 years ago from one of my first employers, a wonderful man who taught me a lot about work performance, and have made great use of it since. I’ve also told team members about this, but often had resistance because they think it opens them up to doing “more work”. (!). I tell them that yes, there’s a chance it will set them up for doing more work than needed to get a paycheck coming in, but it will also set them up for promotion and better reviews. Sadly, some employees want to do the minimum. Well, it remains perhaps the best thing you could say to your boss, I do agree, for those who want to really shine at work.
